Ehime is the north western prefecture in the island of Shikoku. The people are rural and very friendly. In stark contrast to snowy Akita, Ehime is a sunny place. Lots of sunshine provides an ideal environment for fruit and Ehime is widely regarded as the best place in Japan for fruits especially Mikan (mandarin) and Ume (plum). It is popular for its fruity liqueurs richly made from the local fruits. They make umeshu which is a traditional Japanese liqueur made from the stone fruit, ume (Prunus mume). It is known for its sweet and sour taste and is often served as an aperitif or dessert wine. Yuzushu, on the other hand, is a Japanese citrus liqueur made from yuzu fruit. It has a sweet and sour taste with a refreshing citrus aroma.
